I don't want to resort to opening the laptop up since it's much more confined and complicated. There was barely to no overheating after that for 2 months. Some people use their finger to smooth out the thermal paste over the chip, this can cause air bubbles which will prevent proper cooling. Consider donating to the Electronic Frontier Foundation!
